Kern ‘zine

Kern zine

Kern is a 16-page A5 riso-printed ‘zine that explores contemporary typographers, designed with a strong editorial focus. Each issue highlights six designers known for pushing the boundaries of creative, expressive typography, with this edition featuring (among others) Peter Saville and Oded Ezer, whose work continues to influence modern visual culture.

Saville & Ezer double page spreads

For this project, I created a layout system built on a 8-column grid, which became the backbone of the entire issue. I used a mix of three, four and four-column text widths to give each spread its own rhythm, allowing room for experimentation while maintaining a consistent visual flow, an approach that mirrors magazine layout principles.

Each designer received two double-page spreads combining a concise written profile with curated imagery, balancing clarity, hierarchy, and personality.

I also developed multiple cover concepts, including one inspired by Peter Saville’s New Order artwork. The final version, printed in vibrant riso pink and blue, captures the playful, energetic tone of the publication while remaining grounded in thoughtful editorial design.
